SUPboarders First Look

It’s a board that leaves Reuben a little a lost for words (which doesn’t happen that often!). The F-one Madeiro Pro series of boards is F-one’s answer to pure performance SUP surfing shapes. But unlike most pro shaped boards this is a big board. At 136L its got volume to float bigger riders who want a pro feel on a wave, and at 32” wide it’s going to offer a good amount of stability too. And then there’s the weight!…  at 7.7kg its a very light board for its size.

Reuben pulls out the bag and has a look at the new Starboard Pro 7’10”. This is a brand new board shape and size for 2019. Diamond shaped shorter nose and channelled bottom are some of the new features you with see on these new Starboard Pro’s. We look forward to getting these new compact style Pro boards on the water soon to see if they’re as good as they say they are.

We take a ‘First Look’ at the new SIC surf SUP… the SIC Slice 9’0”. Up until now we’ve only managed to get our hands on SIC’s race & downwind boards. From a new range this 9’0” surf shape will offer a big paddling/surfing window for a lot of intermediate to advanced SUP surfers.  Look out for the full review on SUPboarder soon.

There’s a lot of gear arriving at the SUPboarder studio at the moment, which means plenty of ‘First Look’ videos before we get all the gear on the water. This times it’s the Naish Hover 120L crossover board and Thrust Foil that we take a quick look at. SUP surfing, SUP foil surfing and windsurf foiling… this board does it all.

We have a ‘First Look’ at the JP Australia Foil board. This is one of the most radical shaped production foil boards on the market. We know that this type of board won’t be for the majority of paddlers around the world but it’s always good to see what the more cutting edge side of the sport has to offer.

With loads of new 2019 gear heading our way the first board up with a new style ‘First Look’ video is the JP Australia Surf 8’6”WE. This is a brand new board for 2019. At 113L the JP Australia Surf 8’6” could suit those mid/heavy weight paddlers with a real itch for a performance shape!

For the northern hemisphere winter is the time for wind and swell, and the two together can mean one thing… great SUP downwinding. We’ve got hold of arguably one of the best downwinding boards in the business – the SIC Bullet 14′. As well as doing a full SUPboarder review we’re going to be doing a series of videos using the SIC including a ‘getting into downwinding series’ teaching the downwinding basics and more. Starting on lakes and estuaries on windy days then moving out into open ocean swell to catch some endless glides.

The SIC Bullet may be the ideal board for downwinding but that doesn’t mean you need to have it to go downwinding. We will be talking about taking your 10’5” downwinding too.

Downwinding is a fantastic side to our sport and it’s so simple. It involves travelling in one direction only, downwind with the waves and wind on your back. It doesn’t have to be about crossing oceans. It really can be for everyone. We look forward to showing you what downwinding is all about.

We have a ‘First look’ at the NEW Starboard Longboard. We were wondering when Starboard was going to join the party, with other brands having had good shaped SUP longboards in their range last year. But by the look of it, it was worth the wait. Our first look at the Starboard ticks all the boxes to be a good longboard surf shape. We can’t wait to give this board a full SUPboarder review and working over soon.

We always like getting our hands on a board that we’ve never seen before and have no idea what it’s going to be like. The AirDegree 10’6” was one of those boards. At $599 it’s a mid range price point beginner SUP that on first impressions looks like it would get paddlers on the water for a good price. We look forward to getting this board on the water for a full review soon.
