In this SUPboarder review we look at one of the newest boards from the UK based SUP company Hatha. The Hatha Aura is an all round yoga/fitness board. At the competitive package price point of £625 including a 3 piece glass paddle, the Hatha Aura would be a great board for a beginner all round paddler wanting to get into SUP and take to the water to do some yoga and fitness too. A good looking inflatable SUP that show cases the brand Hatha at their best.
Fin set up 2+1 (Single US box and 2 mini side fins)
Meet the Aura and take your fitness outdoors. The Aura boasts a full length deck pad with a discreet visual alignment guide to maintain the perfect position. The 10 inch FCS ii connect fin makes getting onto the water even easier. This is our first board in our range to boast our “TFT” Thermo Fusion Technology making the board both lighter and stronger. It is constructed using our premium Military grade PVC making it extremely durable.
The Aura is packed with features, including front D-rings that perfectly align with the Hatha docking station. Front and rear paddle holders will keep your paddle safe and out of the way. As the Aura has no central carry handle so we have developed the Cario System which is a unique padded shoulder strap which attaches to the side of the board leaving your hands free! (patent pending).
Included is a three piece adjustable composite paddle with double locking clips and also stainless steel locking pins to minimise any twisting. It has a rubber ABS edge to the blade to protect your paddle as well as your board.
Also included is a colour coded heavy duty wheeled bag packed with features, including shoulder and waist straps, internal pockets, large front zip and a secret pouch to tuck away the shoulder straps when not needed. There is a double pump and a robust 10’ coiled leash inside the box.
Red Paddle Co has announced the launch of a revolutionary inflatable paddle board. The Compact 9’6” on pre-sale now, is a full-sized SUP that folds down to half the size of a regular inflatable paddle board while not compromising on paddling performance. The smaller packed size gives paddlers the convenience of being able to easily carry it around town, jump onto public transport or store in the trunk of your car, with space to spare. The ultra -compact nature of the package also allows for storage within small cars, smaller apartments onboard boats and in your van.
Red Paddle Co, Co-Founder and CEO, John Hibbard explains where the idea for the new board came from – “When I started Red Paddle Co 10 years ago it was motivated by the fact that everyone I took paddling loved the idea of paddling but the large, cumbersome composite boards I was using at the time just didn’t appeal to enough people. Storage, transportation and durability were the main barriers to entry not to mention the weight.”
Hibbard continues, “Our aim since then has been to produce the most compact and transportable board in the world, without compromising on performance. It’s been ten years in the making, but we’re very excited to present the International Patent Pending Compact board which features Red Paddle Co’s new PACT Technology ™.
PACT Technology ™ is a material with a new weaving process which creates an extra-high-tensile thread matrix at the core of the board that is combined with a super-strong but malleable outer layer. This means the Compact board is as stiff and durable when inflated but can be folded down into a bag half the size of standard inflatable boards.
Based on the plan of the award-winning, all-round Ride 10’6″ MSL, the Compact 9’6” is 32”/813mm wide and 4.7”/120mm thick and provides the perfect blend of stability and manoeuvrability. Weighing in at under 8kg (board-only) and supporting riders up to 95kg/209lbs the smaller length board offers a fantastic all-round SUP experience for most riders.
Length: 9’6” Width: 32“/813mm
Volume: 222 litres
Rider Weight: up to 95kg/209lb
Full package weight: 12.7Kg
The Compact board comes as part of a full package including a newly designed backpack, revolutionary 5-piece paddle, Titan pump, leash and removable fins.
The innovation continues into the new backpack as Phil Hawthorne, Head of Design at Red Paddle Co explains, “Everything we do at Red Paddle Co starts with the paddler and how we can make their full experience better. The new highly engineered backpack for the Compact has unique levels of adjustability and comfort, plus incredible shoulder and back support.”
Hawthorne continues, “It’s the most highly engineered SUP bag on the planet, applying approximately 53% less down force on the carrier’s lower back, you can travel for longer in comfort.” The bag also features customisable lumbar support and adjustable height features so is suitable for any size of paddler.
Creating a compact paddle was not an easy task for the Red Paddle Team, but they have found the perfect solution: a five-piece paddle. As a result, it packs away perfectly, but it is still adjustable with no compromise on the water.
The modular design also means sections can be removed to create a paddle for smaller riders or kids, opening up the board package to be used by the whole family. The paddle is made of high-modulus carbon for extra rigidity, with a durable nylon blade.
Plus, the blade of the paddle is laser etched, with no printing or transfers. Meaning the design will stay on forever.
Completing the package, to fulfil their aim to produce the most transportable board on the planet, new click fins are used to enable fast secure fin attachment. The custom designed twin fins allow the Compact 9’6” to easily track through the water.
The Compact 9’6” is on limited pre order now while stocks last, through www.redpaddleco.comand selected retailers with products being fulfilled in November. General release nationwide from December. RRP £1,299/1499 EUR/$1,899 USD/$2,199 CAD for the full package.
We really cant wait to get our hands on this new Compact 9’6” board. Red Paddle Co have never disappointed us with the build quality and design of any of their products before, so we don’t think that we will be disappointed with the new Compact either. The board shape and size will be perfect for midsize paddlers. And with the overall smaller backpack size it will make it even easier to find new places with an iSUP. We’re also very impressed how it all fits into the bag and its overall weight too.
So, you’ve decided which iSUP you want to buy, but then you might have to start thinking about which construction (if there’s a choice). This is a tricky decision that many paddlers face, so in this video we take a look at one of RRD’s most popular boards – the RRD 10’4”x 34”. A great size and shape board for mid to heavier weight riders wanting to get into SUP. We take a closer look at what the differences are between these two different constructions – the RRD AirSUP in the Prime construction and the AirEVO in the EVO construction. RRD have put a lot of work into both these boards with good quality materials and design. We’ve found this board comparison/review very interesting and it really shows how you can make an iSUP stiffer with extra materials and R&D.
The most wanted SUP range of our collection. This super friendly and allround orientated type of board glides smoothly on flat water and rides effortlessly in small surf, allowing you to enter a new dimension of excitement. Rocker and scoopline together with a perfect fin placement allow for a great experience of pleasure in an incredible variety of conditions.
Built with a new “ Sandwich Dyneema Belt “ that wraps the whole contour of the board on the deck and bottom as a stringer, the board becomes about 30% stiffer than any conventional inflatable board.
It’s the real inflatable board for everyone.
Easy to be paddled and easy to be inflated and rolled up.
Thanks to its special lightweight technology with one middle HD PVC fabric stripe to increase stifness and a lightweight dropstitch body, the EVO SUP becomes the perfect choice for the family or for any type of use, from lakes to waves!
If you’re going to buy one all-round iSUP make sure it’s a good looking one! And they don’t come much better looking than this in 2018 – the Starboard Tikhine 11’2” is a stylish and yet practical iSUP. Being 11’2” x 32” it offers more glide than the shorter all-round mid 10′ iSUPs. And yet because of its 3 fixed fins its still a hard wearing board that will be perfect for family and friends to try out SUP for the first time. The shoulder carry strap makes it easy to carry even after you’ve inflated it. And one thing you can be certain is that this board will turn heads everywhere you go!
Shoulder Carry Strap making them effortless to carry to the water.
Tail carry handle. Can be converted to a paddle holder, one of many Starboard innovations.
The new Tikhine lines featuring custom artwork from Sonni Hönscheid and David Carson with 3 art options available.
11’2″ x 32″ Tikhine This great shape blends nice glide with good stability. Suitable for day trips, yoga sessions and fitness workouts. The increased waterline and higher volume makes the 11’2″ x 32″ a top Tikhine choice for riders above 100 kg.
10’2″ x 31″ Tikhine This fun compact board’s wide tail makes it easy to step back and make quick fun turns. The glide sensation of the very light hull makes it a top choice for riders below 90 kg.
Target rider: The perfect inflatable introduction for first time paddlers and riders who want style.
Key features: Built in shoulder strap, paddle holder and bungee tie-downs on the nose.
In this SUPboarder review we look at the Riber 290, the smallest inflatable SUP in the Riber range and the cheapest too. At £289 you get alot of board for your money, but this board will not suit everyone. The Riber 290 is definitely a board for the lighter riders – sub 75kg. Being a relatively narrow board at 27.5” wide it offers lighter paddlers a board that glides well on the water. Riber also do a Unicorn and Jolly Roger edition in the same size for the kids.
In this SUPboarder review we take a look at a board from a small family run SUP business in south Dorset – Sandbanks SUP Style, started back in 2014. This is Sandbanks SUP Style’s newest inflatable SUP – the 10’5” Ultimate SR. The Ultimate SR is the perfect size for entry level paddlers wanting a fun and stable board for all-round paddling. Sandbanks SUP Style offer this board as a package, at two very competitive price points. £499 with an aluminium 3 piece paddle or £599 with a carbon 3 piece paddle.

During summer 2018 we have been reviewing loads of inflatable SUPs (iSUPs). And with boards now available at a huge range of price points we appreciate that when buying an iSUP it can be a tricky decision to make.
Many of you ask us “Why should I spend more money on a well known iSUP brand such as Red Paddle Co when I can buy a cheaper board for half the price?” Well, this video from Red Paddle Co shows just what lengths they go to, to ensure they are making what they believe to be the best iSUPs out there.
We’ve been using Red Paddle Co boards from the beginning, and we have to say that we agree with them. We aren’t saying that everybody has to buy a Red Paddle Co. But if you do, you won’t be disappointed.
In this SUPboarder review we look at another cheaper price point SUP from Aqua Marina. The Aqua Marina Magma 10’10” is 30′ wide so will suit light to mid-weight paddlers wanting more of a board for themselves, rather than a family and friends board like the Aqua Marina Beast at 32” wide. This board will take you places and get you into some small waves too.
Character and Style
Drifting down the river, can become effortless effort, where nature does most of the work, while the rider simply guides the board, taking the occasional steering stroke to keep the board headed in the right direction. Similar to Fusion, the Magma is simply a cruising and surfing version, which still offers high level of functionality. Highlights – the 4cm kicker-pad for step back confidence and control. Like the Fusion, it features stunning graphics, and inspired from the Octopus, the beautiful hand-made print is designed to enhance and elevate the riders experience and love of the board.

When it comes to buying an iSUP the choices are vast. And if you are looking at getting on the water for as cheap as possible it can be even harder to know which board is best for the money. Just remember that the cheapest isn’t always the best!
After testing and using hundreds of iSUPs we have put together all the things we have learnt when we’ve been looking at and using iSUPs. In general you do get what you pay for when it comes to iSUPs and their packages, but to be fair in 2018 we have been seeing many good value iSUPs that will get you on the water for a really good price. Hopefully by the end of this video you will have all the information you need to ensure you and your friends get a good SUP for your money.
In this SUPboarder review we are looking at the Riber 295 inflatable SUP. The 295 or 9’8” iSUP is perfect for beginner, mid-weight paddlers up to 80-85kg. The finish and fittings are the same as the bigger Riber 335 we tested a few weeks ago. This smaller board in the range will best suit mid-size paddlers wanting an all-round board to get into the sport at a very good price.

ALL ROUND – FOR ALL
Narrower nose allows for minimal push of the water in the front, resulting in a faster glide with each paddle stroke. The parallel outline ensures great traction and less paddle-hand changes. This also brings another advantage – a wider tail that significantly improves stability of the board. The two sizes will cover the widest range of average paddler’s needs; from absolute beginners to those taking first white water runs, from beginner surfers to yoga enthusiasts. Choose one of the two models with the windsurfing option to double the potential of these great boards.
The AllroundAir 10’6” x 32” is also available in Light Economy. The WS models come with an additional 10” center fin and a windsurfing mast plug.
All the AllroundAirs feature a bungee rope on the nose
Mast plug to attach windsurfing rig, center fin and the center fin box only come with boards with windsurf option – WS.
The Superior Edition offers all the technical features of the Superior Stringer edition except for the stringer itself. The boards are therefore extremely durable, light and very stiff.
The 3 pre-laminated composite layers consist of 2 airtight PVC sheets bonded to a Polyester 1000D fabric to create one super strong shell. This shell is then machine laminated directly onto the 500D Polyester Drop Stitch fabric. The pre-lamination and the composite structure give you an unmatched weight/stiffness/durability ratio for inflatable SUPs.
Layer #1:The first PVC layer makes sure your JP inflatable is 100% airtight.
Layer #2: This Polyester 1000D fabric in combination with the layers 1 and 3 creates a super durable composite stretch-resistant structure.
Layer #3:The top PVC layer locks the fabric for ultimate in durability and stiffness. Oh yes, and it gives your SUP its color.
Rail Layer #1:This polyester fabric reinforced PVC rail band connects the top and bottom pre-laminated triple layers.
Rail Layer #2:This additional polyester fabric reinforced PVC rail band makes sure that your SUP is 100% sealed and very durable.
