Foil racing, choppers and Dave Kalama’s mini centre fin setup

SUP foiling has grown steadily over the last year and judging by the amount of foilers that took park in the 2019 Olukai Ho’olaule’a Foil Race it’s becoming a popular discipline in our sport. This video from co-founder and designer of Go Foil, Alex Aguera has it all – great foiling from some of the worlds best and some unreal helicopter flying too! Who needs a drone when you have Don Shear flying a chopper like that?!!

In the video we noticed Dave Kalama’s front centre fin setup. We asked Alex the idea behind it and here’s what he said…

“Dave's centre fin is to add directional stability when he is paddling really hard. It helps his tiny board go straight and not turn to the opposite side of where he is paddling on. The shorter boards have a tendency to turn when stroking really hard so he likes it on his board. He put a FCS plug in fin I believe.”
