Go long or go home / Longboard SUP surfing with Rick

This video from Rick Weeks really shows you the great side of longboard SUP surfing. Rick is SUP surfing a 14′ Sunova Search.

The advantages of SUP surfing the longer boards are.

• The glide and flow on the wave is really unmatched compared to shorter boards.
• They are faster and the speed is perfect for getting you along small fast waves that might not break at all or waves that may close out in front of you and may be too fast to ride on a shorter board.
• They give you a nice stable platform to move around, great for learning about your footwork.
• And to get the most out of longer boards you really have to move around the board too. This is great for gaining general SUP surfing board confidence.

So give it a go. The waves don’t have to be big (1′-3′ is ideal) and like Rick find an empty quiet surf break and get the longer boards out. Remember SUP boards can be big, heavy and dangers so be respectful and look out for others in the water.
