SUP Yoga is growing and this requires an international standard for SUP Yoga Instructor training, says ASI CEO, Tania Nesbitt. Zoe is highly experienced in yoga and fitness and in particular SUP Yoga and will assist ASI in delivering high quality ASI SUP Yoga instructor training across the globe.

Originally a professional dancer, Zoe has worked in the fitness industry for 28 years working as a group exercise instructor, personal trainer, workshop leader fitness, demonstrator advanced and Ashtanga Yoga Teacher. She is a pioneer in developing SUP Yoga in the UK and delivering SUP Yoga sessions.

Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters)
for instructing at protected coastal beaches, bays, harbours and inland bodies of water wider than 1 km (0.6 miles). Shore-break up to 1½ feet, swell size up to 2ft. No breaking waves.

Level 3 SUP Instructor (Downwind and Distance Paddling)
for instructing for 10 kms, (6.2 miles) paddles with the wind behind and speed greater than 15 knots and less than 20 knots.  Locations defined as wide open stretches of water such as exposed coastal waters and protected bays, lakes, lagoons. Swell size up to 4 ft, no more than 500 metres from shore.

Level 3 SUP Instructor (Beginner Surf)
Instruct and manage stand up paddle surfing sessions in surf up to 1½ ft (½ metre).

SUP Instructor Water Rescue Award
Perform simple rescues in SUP enclosed flat water and exposed waters locations or beginner surf locations.

10 Tips to Learn to Stand Up Paddle Safely

Stand up paddle is one of the fastest growing sports today.  It’s primarily conducted in flat water with amazing core fitness benefits.

Stand up paddle (SUP) reaches out to people of all ages.   The boards are big and buoyant making it easy to stand and paddle in the flat water.

The focus is on having fun on the water, enjoying nature while exercising and getting fit.   However, unless you have some basic stand up paddle safety knowledge, it’s easy to find yourself in dire straits!

As with any sport, there are always some guidelines to follow.   ASI provides you with 10 basic SUP tips to help keep you and those around you safe while you stand up paddle.

1.   Always paddle in flat water.  Choose a SUP location with flat water.   Rivers and lakes are ideal.   Know the location, its associated hazards.  Stay away from boats, moorings, submerged tree branches or anything that you could fall onto.
